Tiger Woods Part Ways with Swing Coach Sean Foley

Tiger Woods announced on his website on Monday that he had parted ways with swing coach Sean Foley.

The 14-time majors' champion Woods ruled himself out of the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles and will not compete until December at the World Challenge event at Isleworth in Orlando had worked with Foley since 2010.

"I'd like to thank Sean for his help as my coach and for his friendship," Woods said in a statement. "Sean is one of the outstanding coaches in golf today and I know he will continue to be successful with players working with him."

The 38-year-old Woods have not won any major tournament since hiring Foley and after his surgery to repair a pinch nerve located in his back last March, Woods did not feel that anything has been done to improve his swing, hence the departure of Foley.

"My time spent with Tiger is one of the highlights of my career so far," Canadian coach Foley said. "I have nothing but respect and admiration for him."

Butch Harmon was Woods' coach until 2004 when he won eight major championships. Harmon was replaced by Hank Haney who worked on flattening his swing plane.

Woods continued to win six other major titles but said that his driving accuracy had dropped significantly and then came Foley who had been criticized by analysts saying that his swing was too complicated.

Woods also said in his website that he has "no timetable" for hiring a new coach.

Many feel that Harmon had better swing mechanics and that it would reduce if not protect him, ironically, from possible injuries.

Although it is not ruled out that Harmon might not want to have a reunion with Woods, the next coach will definitely be scrutinized even more as he works with a more delicate golfer.
