China's top player Ding Junhui bowed out on the first day of the Chinese Billiard World Championship losing two straight games on Thursday.
The 28-year-old home favorite enjoyed cheers and applause from the fans as they witnessed Ding's victory in the first frame.
But this did not upset Michael Hill as the veteran of four preliminaries established an 8-1 lead, while Ding, who is also known as the "Star of the East" and "Enter the Dragon," only managed to win two frames and yielded to a 9-3 defeat.

According to Sina, the "Losers Bracket" second round pits Ding against the only Australian to have won a ranking event Neil Robertson, who is the world No. 3. Ding trailed but was able to narrow the gap from 1-5 to 6-7 before the 34 year-old Melbourne native won the following two frames to win 9-6.
"The balls are a little heavier than those in snooker, they may not move to exactly the place I expected," said Ding, who was the only Asian player to held the world number one position in the sports of snooker. "Still, the Chinese billiard is a unique game that everyone should have a try."
Ding is considered China's most successful professional snooker player. He has won three ranking titles and became the only second teenager, after John Higgins of Scotland, to claim the feat that includes the prestigious UK Championship.
The Yixing, Jiangsu-born Ding has compiled more than 390 century breaks during his career and has equaled the record set by Scottish Stephen Hendry of winning five ranking titles in the same season in the 2013-14 snooker season.
Meanwhile, 26-year-old world No. 6 Judd Trump, who is competing for the first time in the World Championship, also crashed out of the competition after succumbing to Thorsten Bernhard Hohmann of Germany 9-5 and Lee Van Barrios Corteza of the Philippines 9-3.
