National Football League's (NFL) New York Jets suspended cornerback Dimitri Patterson indefinitely for missing a preseason game against the third preseason game against the New York Giants.

The game against the Giants was on Friday night. Prior to that, Patterson was still with the team during a walkthrough practice at Hofstra University, and during meetings, practice sessions, and pregame meals earlier on that Friday.

However, come game time, he was nowhere to be found at the MetLife Stadium. He left no word or indication on why he wasn't able to play that day and his team was clueless at any health or injury that could have stopped Patterson from playing.

Patterson's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, contacted the team on Patterson's behalf 48 hours after he had gone AWOL. He set up a meeting at the team's facility between Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan, General Manager John Idzik, and Patterson.

Idzik has declined to reveal what occurred during their meeting late Sunday night. However, he was able to confirm that Patterson was not injured, that he did have a reason for not showing up for the game, and the he did not think that his actions were inappropriate.

Idzik stated that the team will continue to investigate the situation and gather facts to make a well-informed decision. He also added that he did not rule out the possibility of releasing Patterson.

People are offering many different possibilities and reasons for his disappearance, none of them seem plausible.

While Patterson has been struggling with injuries for some time now, his fellow teammates have stated that he had shown improvements in previous practice sessions.

Some think that the 31-year old is unhappy with his role in the team. However, it is hard to believe given that Patterson had always been playing with the starting team if he was healthy.

The only sure thing is that without Petterson, the New York Jets are going to have a hard time with the cornerback position. Three of their cornerbacks - including Dee Milliner, Antonio Allen, and rookie Dexter McDougle have injuries.

Presently, the Jets' only choice are Darrin Walls and Ellis Lankster, both rookie cornerbacks.
