Samsung took advantage of the viral ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to advertise its smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy S5 phone took the challenge, was drenched in ice cold water, and is now challenging rivals HTC One M8, Apple iPhone 5S and Nokia Lumia 930.
In support of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, Samsung placed its flagship phone Galaxy S5 through the Ice Bucket Challenge and challenged its competitors, which do not feature a water-proof case like it does. The phone seemed to mock its nominees which would likely break if it underwent the challenge.

People think it is quite sleazy of Samsung to market its flagship device but the company still donated money and encouraged all its customers to do the same. While it is obviously a shameless marketing stunt, something good may still come out of it as well. The company did not disclose how much it donated though.
Samsung is advertising the Galaxy S5's water-resistant housing to compete with the iPhone features. There are also rumors that the next-gen iPhone 6 will sport a waterproof case. Customers are still waiting with bated breath to confirm it.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge aims to promote awareness about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as the Lou Gehrig's disease. The challenge asks a person to pour ice cold water on his or her head and nominate other people to do it as well. If the nominees fail to do it within 24 hours, they should donate to the research of the ALS disease. Most people do both.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has raised more than $40 million in donations so far. Apple CEO Tim Cook and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also took the Ice Bucket Challenge as well.
