China is currently engaged in an ecological battle to create a Greener Economy and cut carbon emissions. The country had a chance to show its resolve for a cleaner future during the Earth Hour day this past Saturday. Major businesses in the country joined hands to campaign and promote innovative ways to make the planet better.

While American company NuSkin Taiwan announced its plan to  observe a lightless hour a day for a whole month, Baidu Inc. teamed up with the World Wide Fund for Nature to support Earth hour and the DU team launched "Light Up the Night" game.

Taipower headquarters and the Taipei 101 skyscraper observed the Earth Hour by turning off their lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. The move saved enough electricity to power over a million 60 watt bulbs for an hour.

Sands China, major property owner, went an extra mile by promoting the 'I will if you Will' challenge across its properties and thus observing the Earth hour for the 8th year in a row. Similarly, CapitaLand launched an eco-friendly fluorescent t-shirt campaign, which had the peple in its malls glowing in the dark.

Tan Seng Chai, Group CCO said that their continued support for Earth Hour is one of many ways they have been contributing against climate change. "We will continue to... reduce our carbon emissions and do our part to #ChangeClimateChange.", he added.

Li Bingbing, Chinese actor and Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Environment Programme, has urged people to become 'Green-Consumers' by taking decisions that protect the planet. She wrote in Shanghai Daily that saving the planet was not just about switching off lights, rather, "It's about changing the way we live; it's about changing the way we consume."
