The premiere of Leonardo DiCaprio's The Revenant in China is slated for Sunday, but the movie has already been screening in Chinese theatres since Friday. And if weekend numbers are anything to by, then Alejandro G Inarritu directed movie seems to have hit the bulls eye at China's box office.

The Revenant grossed $11 million on its opening day, with another $13 million on Saturday. By Sunday evening, the movie's earnings in China is expected to cross the $30 million mark.
The Revenant depicts the story of a 19th-century frontiersman, who finds himself stranded in the Native American forest, after being abandoned by his colleagues. The frontiersman's trials and tribulations and his struggle to survive in the forest is what the movie is all about.
The Revenant is essentially a dark and grim movie. The kind of movies that the Chinese audience are not accustomed to watching. This is a reason why most critics have described The Revenant's first weekend collection in China as more than impressive.
Of course, Leonardo DiCaprio's star power has been a trump card in the movie's initial success. DiCaprio has been a massive star across China since the days of the blockbuster Titanic movie.
If grapevines are to be believed, then Leonardo DiCaprio may land in China on Sunday to attend Sunday's premier. The event is most likely to send DiCaprio's Chinese fans into hysteria, boosting the movie's collection further.
However, critics are not sure whether DiCaprio's star power will help to sustain the movie after the initial hype dies down.
