Miley Cyrus's Homeless VMA Date Wanted in Oregon for Misdemeanors

The audience at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards had no idea who was Jesse Helt, the young homeless man who Miley Cyrus brought as her date, and who went up onstage on her behalf to accept her award.
But he did hype up so much interest that entertainment news sleuths went out to dig up anything they could get, and social media users tweeted whatever was online about Helt.

And now, the internet is abuzz about Helt having an outstanding arrest warrant in Oregon, where he is from, and where the cops are just waiting for him to pop up so they could put him back in jail.
Helt, court records now show, was arrested in 2010 for criminal mischief, criminal trespass and burglary. That was after he had broken into the apartment of a man who had been selling marijuana.
It looked like Helt was sore because the man had sold him "bad" marijuana.
Helt pleaded guilty to criminal mischief and criminal trespass, and was sentenced to 30 days in jail and probation. He violated probation, and an arrest warrant was issued in November 2011.
It wasn't known when Helt moved to Los Angeles and lived on the streets while trying to find work as a model.
Martin Silbernagel, director for community corrections at Polk County, said officials are looking for Helt and will arrest him. He said Helt had repeatedly failed to meet with his probation officer.
"He doesn't make himself available to community supervision, and he takes off," Silbernagel said.
Court records also show Helt was arrested by Salem, Oregon police three times as a juvenile, for offenses that included marijuana possession and being a minor in possession of tobacco and liquor.
Cyrus gave Helt the limelight when she asked him to accept Cyrus' award, during which he read a speech that called attention to the plight of homeless youth.
"I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost, and scared for their lives right now," Helt said. "I know this because I am one of these people."
Outside the family home in Salem, his parents had posted a sign that said, "Only family & friends & neightbors at this time."
