A distressing turn of events during their family outing caused the death of three generations of a Hillsboro family. The bodies were found dead on Tuesday after the said family members drowned in a popular lake near Portland.

According to reports, the family from Hillsboro went on a picnic and swimming getaway on Monday, where they met their tragic end.

At 6:30 on Monday evening, witnesses found an unconscious three-year-old, Jeremy Scholl, along the shore of the Henry Hagg Lake, where they discovered four pairs of footwear in different sizes.

Despite their efforts to revive the child until emergency responders arrived, he died on the scene. Reports noted that the tot did not wear any life jacket though it is presently available near the lake.

When authorities discovered that the boy's family was nowhere to be found at around 7:20 p.m., a search party was launched to scour the lake six miles northwest of Gaston until 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

After the day-long search, all other members of the family, including 42-year-old Jova Ixtacua-Castano, 25-year-old Gabriela Garcia-Ixtacua, and 13-year-old Michael Garcia-Ixtacua were found dead around 40 feet from the lake's shore.

Jova was Gabriella and Michael's mother and Jeremy's grandmother. All of them lived together in Hillsboro.

Police are speculating that one or some of the members of the family were in trouble while swimming in the 8-to-13-foot deep lake and the others came to their aid.

According to Washington County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Sgt. Bob Ray, rescuers did not find any sign of foul play or anything suspicious. However, investigations are still ongoing to shed light on the tragic incident. Autopsy of the bodies will be done on Wednesday.

According to some divers, the lake does not have a strong current though they were warned of the dangers of its sudden drop-off.

The popular picnic destination will resume operations on Wednesday morning.
