Florida voters went to the polls Tuesday for one of its most competitive governor's primary racer ever. Results confirmed there would be a tight margin between Gov. Rick Scott and former Gov. Charlie Crist, the primary winners, come November.

Incumbent Scott, a Republican, beat two opponents. Crist, a former Republican turned Democrat who was governor of Florida from 2007 to 2011, defeated Nan Rich, a former Florida Senate minority keader who was term-limted out of occie in 2012. Analysts said the change of parties may hurt Crist in the fall.

More than 1.2 million votes were cast early, according to reports. Absentee ballots has become popular and a more convenient option for the voters, according to Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner. With so many early ballot, there were no long lines on the Election Day itself leaving precincts quiet most of the day.

Orlando-area Democrat Jerry Waxman, a partially retired science consultant, voted for Rich, but noted that he will be backing Crist in the general election this fall. "There are a lot of people like me," Waxman said. "We don't want to vote for him but we're going to have to."

Democratic leaders are said to be seeking to move quickly preceding the primary elections. They are said to have plans for rallies featuring both of the candidates both in Fort Lauderdale and in Orlando on Thursday this week.

Democrats are incredibly enthusiastic about the fall election, said Joshua Karp, Florida Democratic Party spokesman.

Experts predict that the stage will be both a nasty and a tight campaign for the two parties for the upcoming general election.
