The Seattle Seahawks, along with head coach Pete Carroll, have been penalized for violating the no-contact rule during their practice sessions.

The violation infringed on the league's collectively bargained rules on contact in offseason practice.

The Seahawks were permitting unnecessary and excessive physical field contact during the team's 2014 mandatory minicamp for veteran players.

The guidelines state that there will be no tackling, live blocking, pass rushing, bump-and-running, and the use of pads - with the exception of the helmet - during minicamps.

The penalties include a collective US $300,000 fine for both the Seahawks and for Carroll.

While there is confirmation as to the split of the fine, an analyst from ESPN reported that the fine is split, with two-thirds falling to the head coach, while the remaining third is the team's penalty.

Apart from that, the Seahawks will give up their first two days of mandatory minicamps in the 2015 preseason. They will only be permitted a single practice session on their final day of training, with the duration only two and a half hours long. They will still be paid for the practice sessions.

The NFL began investigations due to footage of a June practice session wherein cornerback Richard Sherman and receiver Phil Bates got in a fight. Receiver Bryan Walters injured his a shoulder injury when he dove for the ball as safety Earl Thomas was charging in.

After looking at the footage, the NFL deemed that they had been using excessive physical contact during practice.

Within three years, the Seahawks are identified as repeat offenders, having been penalized for the same reason last 2012.

They lost two OTA practices for the violation of contact rules, but were not given fines.
