"Modern Family" actress Sarah Hyland has called it quits with her boyfriend of five years, Matt Prokop.

Rumors began to surface last August 25 that the pair may have ended their relationship after the 23-year-old actress attended the 66^th Annual Emmy Awards without a date.

According to Us Weekly, Hyland and her 22-year-old beau have carried on their separate ways and that it had been an amicable breakup.

Hyland's rep also confirmed to HollywoodLife.com that the couple has broken up.

A close friend of the actress told the magazine that the actress has been well after separating from her long-time boyfriend.

 "Sarah's doing fine. It didn't work out. She's young," the source said. "They decided they would be better off as friends."

The source also told the online publication that Hyland had been dancing with several guys at the HBO Emmy after party last August 25, saying that the actress was "definitely acting single and ready to mingle."

Hyland met Prokop back in 2008 during the auditions for "High School Musical 3: Senior Year." As their love affair bloomed, the couple also worked together on "Geek Charming", an original movie by Disney Channel, starring Hyland as a popular teen who falls in love with Prokop's geeky character.  

While in the long-term relationship, the two lived together and looked after a Maltipoo named Barkley Bixby.

Earlier this year, while the romance between the couple had still been in bloom, the actress was offensively touched by a fan while in Australia. A 29-year-old man, Nedal Lakmas, had a shocking surprise for Hyland when he touched her breast at a "Modern Family" party during the time when the cast had been filming in Australia.

Her actor beau publicly showed support by going with her on set along with four bodyguards to ensure that no unpleasant acts happen again. Prokop took to social media two days after the incident and wrote, "To the a**hole who assaulted Sarah tonight I hope to God you don't see next week."

One of his most recent tweets, however, prompted his followers to ask whether he and Hyland have parted ways. Here comes that sun again . . . Means another day without you my friend," Prokop wrote last August 17.
