Leaked Photos of Nintendo NX Admittedly Fake

President Of Nintendo Satoru Iwata Gives Keynote At Game Developers Conference

The internet was thrown into an uproar because of recently 'leaked' photos of Nintendo's upcoming system, the Nintendo NX. However, the excitement caused by the 'reveal' was cut short when the people responsible for posting them online admitted that it was only a prank.

The post that featured an odd-looking but exciting device originally appeared on Reddit, posted by a certain 'Idriss2Dev,' reports GameSpot. Although the device posted received a lot of speculations due to some of its features, many already believed that it was a legitimate reveal of the NX, especially because it had a quote from the late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, which goes “you will say wow!”

A few days later, a new post that seemed more believable went online. This time, because of the higher level of production evident in the photo, many more believed it.

However, both are in reality just a mock-up in an attempt to prank netizens over the internet.

The first post was created by David Im, a native French speaker, reports Polygon. Im said that he used a simple 3D model and then inserted it into a photo using the Adobe Photoshop software. He revealed that his creation was merely a hoax with the intention of making people believe that it's actually true.

"I must confess that it amazed me,” Im said.

The second fake post was courtesy of Frank Sandqvist, co-founder of Finland-based laser-engraving company CNC Design. Sandqvist said that his creation was made using Autodesk's 3D modeling tool Fusion 360, and then 3D-printed in black resin and acrylic. His was a recreation of Im's.

Sandqvist admitted that he feels bad for tricking people into believing his creation.

“I'm sorry if I got some people's hopes up,” he said.

On the bright side, Nintendo plans to reveal the real NX sometime later this year.
