While the UK celebrated a White Easter this year because of a whole month of snowfall, the holidays have come to an end on a stormy note.

With storm Katie ravaging through several parts of  the country, the Met Office has issued an amber bad weather signal which stands for a 'be aware' warning and entails potential disruption of travel plans, road and rail closures, interruption to electricity and damage to life and property.

The shores of Scotland and Southern England are expected to face the wrath of hurricanes as the fierce storm travelled across the Atlantic in merely 30 hours.

With Greater London being heavily affected, around 100 flights were affected from Gatwick and Heathrow airports, according to BBC. Thousands of homes were left without power after the storm rampaged through electricity lines and caused widespread tree damage.

The storm, which brought snow, strong winds, and flood was worse on Sunday night with some improvement late Monday, causing travel disruptions as trains were cancelled and highways were closed down. Thus, road transport was brought to a halt in several parts of England.

This is the second major natural disaster that has struck the UK in recent months. Just after Christmas, the Met office had to issue a Red weather signal on December 26 in wake of the dangeroys floods that were expected to disrupt life in North West England. Homes across Yorkshire and Lancashire were flooded causing thousands of people to be evacuated with rivers in other parts of England overflowing and causing major disruptions.

As of Thursday, the weather has somewhat returned to normal and is expected to remain sunny atleast untill Sunday, with rain showers expected to revisit the UK later next week.
