Nintendo has confirmed that its first iOS game Miitomo will officially arrive in the United States on March 31.

Miitomo was first released in Japan earlier in March. It will be launched on both iOS and Android, and it will also be available in the European Union. The game was a big hit among Japanese, having reached 1 million downloads in its first three days in Japan. It also reached the first spot for free apps on the App Store and Google Play.

Miitomo revolves around making “Mii” avatar using the smartphone’s front facing camera. After that, the player will answer questions that can be seen and favorited by their friends. It is considered as both game and social-media platform. Players can also personalize their characters, labelling it as free to start game. Free-to-start is a Nintendo term in reference to microtransactions.

“With Miitomo, Nintendo takes its first step into the world of smart devices. Miitomo brings the special Nintendo charm and polish that people around the world love to an entirely new format and audience,” Nintendo marketing executive Scott Moffitt said in a statement.

MiiTomo is the first product to come out of Nintendo's partnership with the mobile publisher DeNA. Users can then link their Facebook and Twitter accounts to Miitomo to find friends to interact with. It also allows the players to create Miifotos as well. They can place Mii characters in images from a smartphone's image gallery.

The game has also an in-game shop where extra clothing and items can be purchased with Miitomo coins. Real-world money can be used to purchase Miitomo Coins, or they can be earned via gameplay.

The Japanese electronics and software company has also launched “My Nintendo” rewards programs that gives out points to users who link their Nintendo account to an app, interact with apps and other Nintendo services, buy digital games from the website or other Nintendo storefronts and more.

Interested buyers can pre-register for Miitomo by signing up for a Nintendo account at the Miitomo website. Registering before March 31 will give them an allotment of Platinum Points for the new My Nintendo loyalty program.

Nintendo is also preparing to launch five smartphone games by 2017. It will be free as well and produced by Mario Kart producer Hideki Konno.
