Dallas Mavericks power forward David Lee is reportedly considering a return to his original NBA team, the New York Knicks, if the Big Apple squad reaches out to him when he becomes a free agent in the summer.

The 32-year-old, 11-year veteran is set to become an unrestricted free agent this July when the one-year, $2.1 million contract he signed with the Boston Celtics which was absorbed by the Mavericks expires. Dallas just signed Lee on Feb. 22nd of this year after he was waived by the Celtics three days before.

Lee had played 18 games for the Mavs so far and has averaged 9.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in a little over 18 minutes of playing time per night. Beginning the season in Boston, he averaged 7.1 points, 4.3 boards, and 1.8 assists in 15.7 minutes per game in 30 games for the Celtics.

The New York Post reported that Lee is not ruling out a return to the Knicks this summer when reporters asked him the possibility before the Mavs' 91-89 win over New York on Wednesday night.

"(It's) something we even discussed in the buyout process - had a conversation with them," revealed Lee, who was talking about how the Knicks inquired about him during the buyout negotiations with Boston in February.

"These next eight games are most important and we'll deal with that later. I'll have some good choices. I'm looking forward to playing three, four more years. I feel my body feels as healthy as ever," the two-time All-Star power forward added.

Fansided noted that New York will be "getting a solid backup big man" in Lee, who is expected to "be behind Robin Lopez and Kristaps Porzingis" in the Knicks depth chart.

The Knicks could also use Lee as a backup to Carmelo Anthony at the four spot or start with him at center if Kurt Rambis wants to go small ball. Another advantage in acquiring him is he had always been a fan-favorite in the Big Apple and also a favorite of team owner James Dolan and general manager Steve Mills.
