Despite the minor delay, production is said to have begun. There are reports that principal photography will commence sometime in May in South Africa. Arcel's film will not be based solely on King's first novel in the series, but will be adapted from several books and is said to begin from the middle.
Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey will portray the lead roles in the film. Elba is set to play the main protagonist Roland Deschain, a gunslinger and last living descendant of a mythical line, while McConaughey will star opposite as the main antagonist The Man In Black.
Film newcomer Tom Taylor has been cast as Jake Chambers, one of Roland Deschains allies and closest friends. Taylor's character is one of the key protagonists in King's original series and is described as a young boy of around 12 years of age with long blonde hair and striking blue eyes.
