The launch of the Dingfu induction heating or IH rice cooker became such a huge success that it even sparked an R&D war among its local competitors.

The man behind the best-selling appliance is Huang Bing, Midea's chief product manager for the past two-and-a-half years.

Huang, who has mastered the art of cooking rice to perfection, has spent years at t the Chinese home appliances manufacturer's R&D laboratory designing new electric rice cookers.

During the course of his work at the lab, he estimates that he may cook almost two metric tons of rice, which would be sufficient to feed a family of four for eight years.

"I also ate rice, normally finishing 10 bowls of rice each day at the laboratory," he said.

Huang explained that Midea's products are designed to meet the ever-increasing demands of its Chinese customers.

"China-made rice cookers are now time-tested, their high quality is specially designed for Chinese consumers," he said.

"The latter have developed different needs in cooking rice," he continued. "For example, they want the cooker to also make soups. So, we have to develop products that can meet their various needs."

What makes the Chinese home appliances manufacturer's Dingfu cooker stand out is its best water-to-rice proportion and various heat settings during cooking.

According to Li Guolin, general manager of Midea's consumer electric appliances division, the company is focused on producing small smart appliances for domestic and international markets.

"We always prioritize the task of producing best cooking solutions for Chinese consumers," said Li.

Currently, the Chinese home appliances manufacturer has an R&D team which is comprise of more than 100 researchers whose main goal is to build the world's finest electric cooker.
