A shocking assault video uploaded on China's popular social media website 'Sina Weibo' has sparked anger and debate across the country. The video shows a woman being assaulted in full public view in a local luxury hotel.
The video was uploaded earlier this week by a user named "Wanwan". The account reportedly belongs to same woman, who is shown being assaulted in the video.

Wanwan claims that a stranger approached her at the corridor of the Yitel Hotel and started asking her uncomfortable questions.
"I said 'What do you want? I don't know you' and then he started to drag me away. He clutched my neck and face so I couldn't breathe," she wrote. "When I tried to run downstairs, he grabbed me by the hair and dragged me towards the stairway."
Wanwan claims that the hotel staff and guest did not intervene during the assault, assuming that it was a personal quarrel between husband and wife.
Home-Inns Hotel Group, the parent company of Yitel Hotel, has issued an apology to Wanwan and also to Chinese public. The management stated that it has launched an investigation into the incident. The investigation will look into whether it was a genuine case of assault or a staged drama to defame the hotel's reputation.
Meanwhile, the video has triggered a heated debate across China, raising questions over the apathetic attitude displayed by the public.
The hashtag 'Girl attacked at Yitei' has been used more than two million times, and viewed by two billion users.
One Weibo user urged Chinese people to not to turn blind eye to such incidents.
"If people stop being indifferent and calling it as a 'domestic incident' when husbands/boyfriends beat, drag or abuse their wives/girlfriends in public, wouldn't there be fewer of these dangerous situations?" the user asked.
China has witnessed many such incidents in past
In the past, China has witnessed many such high profile incidents where bystanders have turned a blind eye to people's plea for help.
Last year, in shocking incident, a 57-year-old man collapsed at the corner of a road, but no one came forward to help him. The man later died in the hospital.
In another shocking incident in 2011, several people passed by a two year old baby girl, who was seriously injured after being hit by a car. The baby girl later succumbed to her injuries and died.
