Europe must play a bigger role to help resolve the Gaza conflict and not simply act as a ‘bank window’ for rehabilitation after every battle, French President Francois Hollande said on Thursday.

During a speech, Hollande emphasized the significant role of Europe in the Gaza conflict. He said that Europe helps restore and develop Palestine after every conflict through financial assistance, but it should not stop there.

Hollande said Europe must act more and that it should work toward the lifting of the blockade and demilitarizing Gaza.

President Hollande announced in an annual speech to French diplomats that the United States is playing a critical role in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Paris said that the international community has to take the lead in finding the solution to end the war if peace negotiations between both parties fail.

“Everyone knows the conditions: a democratic and viable Palestinian state living side by side with an Israeli state living in security”, Hollande added.

Last Tuesday, an open-ended cease-fire took place in Gaza. All border crossings were opened for humanitarian relief, medical aid and construction materials.

The situation at the crossing became “a little easier” since the ceasefire quoting that some restricted items of the Israelis had been allowed in again, but construction materials have not gotten through yet, Talib Abu Jaray, a 50-year-old driver, said.

After seven weeks of fighting, civilians who fled during the battles returned to their homes. They are now trying live their normal lives, reports confirmed.
