According to the Japan Petrological Agency (JMA), Southern Japan has been hit by an earthquake of magnitude 6.4 at 9:26 pm JST on Thursday.
Several buildings have reportedly collapsed. However, the JMA has ruled out any danger of a Tsunami being triggered by the quake. The agency reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 Kms in the Kumamoto region.

While some of the affected localities effected by the quake in Ueki are reportedly facing water and electricity outages, authorities have reveaed that no other damages have been reported at the nuclear facilities in the region.
Back in 2011, when a magnitude 9 earthquake and Tsunami hit Japan, the country faced the threat of nuclear meltdown due to the damage sustained by nuclear energy plants in the country.
Although damage is still being assessed, according to CNN, at least two people have been killed and 19 houses have collapsed.
In the aftermath of the quake, the government is faced with the task of rehabilitating the victims and providing compensation for the losses suffered.
