Australia has put together a basketball team filled with young talented players and aims to win its first gold medal at the 2014 FIBA World Cup, although they're without two key players - Patty Mills and Andrew Bogut.

The Australian Boomers are set to begin the FIBA tournament against Slovenia in Gran Canaria, Spain on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. EDT.

Led by San Antonio Spurs' Aron Baynes, Australia has five players from the NBA including new comers Dante Exum, Cameron Bairstow and Brock Motum who will be making their major international tournament debuts.

David Andersen will be bringing the experience to the Boomers, as this will be his fifth major tournament, most recently being the 2010 FIBA World Championship.

The team will be relying on wing players Joe Ingles and Brad Newly as key players if Australia wants to achieve their goal of winning the gold, or at least placing a medal.

Ingles is an above-average athlete with great defensive prowess as well as the ability to create his own shot.

Newly also possesses a lot of athleticism, but has tremendous hustle and does all the little things like facilitating ball-movement while making some nice passes, and playing aggressive getting to the free-throw line.

Many fans are anticipating the debut of Australian phenom point-guard Dante Exum, who was drafted fifth overall in the 2014 NBA Draft. He offers some unique length for a point-guard standing 6'6" tall with a 6'10" wingspan, which could cause mismatches for other teams.

Although 19-year-old Exum is extremely talented, Australia reportedly will be utilizing him as the 6th man coming off the bench, most likely due to his lack of experience in major international competition. Instead, Cleveland Cavaliers' Matthew Dellavedova will be starting for the Boomers in their opening game.

Exum easily possess the talent to be the starting point-guard, but like previous years in the past with Patty Mills and Matthew Dellavedova, the starting positions will change on a game-to-game basis. So don't be surprised if Exum ends up playing his way into the starting role once the elimination games begin.

Australia will be in Group D in the FIBA tournament with countries Lithuania, Mexico, Angola, Korea and Slovenia. The four best teams after completing five games will advance to play in the knockout stages of the tournament.

Here's Australia's 2014 FIBA World Cup Schedule before the knockout stage:

Australia vs. Slovenia - Aug. 30
Australia vs. Korea - Aug. 31
Australia vs. Lithuania - Sept. 2
Australia vs. Mexico - Sept. 3
Australia vs. Angola - Sept. 4
