The ninth match of this year's Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 will be played between the debutants Gujarat Lions (GL) and defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) on Saturday. The two sides will take on each other at Mumbai's iconic Wankhede Stadium.

The two-time champions Mumbai Indians registered a comfortable win over Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday after a humiliating defeat against debutants Rising Pune Supergiants in their opening game of tournament. The Gujarat franchise, led by Suresh Raina, made an impressive start in their first IPL season. They have won both of their T20 games so far.

Mumbai Indians' star batsman Lendl Simmons has been ruled out of this season of IPL due to a lower back injury. He will be replaced by in-form Kiwi opener Martin Guptill. Gujarat Lions, on the other hand, is mulling idea of replacing left-arm spinner Shahdab Jakati. He will be replaced by a fast bowler, probably Amit Mishra. All rounder Ravindra Jadeja is likely to miss Saturday's encounter against Mumbai Indians. Jadeja is getting married on April 17, 2016.
