Taipei Will Demolish 18 Bridges and 34 Underpasses in Two Years

18 bridges and 34 underpasses will be demolished because it is not used often by pedestrians.
Eighteen bridges will be demolished in Taipei before 2017, Mayor Ko Wen-je said on Saturday. The pedestrian bridges, most of them near elementary schools, were underused.
By Mayor Ko's order, Taipei's Public Works Department started evaluating 59 pedestrian bridges and 34 underpasses in August last year. The local government completed the evaluation last week.

Mayor Ko approved the department's suggestion to demolish 18 pedestrian bridges and 34 underpasses this year and in 2017.
The city council approved a budget of NT$35 million for the demolition job this year which was initially estimated to be worth around NT$200 million.
The bridges that will soon face destruction are located at Xinyi Road and Keelung Road, Youngji Junior High School, Yongji and Songlong, Xing Ya Elementary School, Zhong Xiao and Linko, Song Shan Elementary School, Gu Ting Elementary School, Lungshan Elementary School, Wanda and Changtai, Rixin Elementary School, Chengde and Minsheng, Muzha Elementary School, Examination Yuan, Nan-Gang Elementary School, Yanping and Zhongzheng, Chengde and Jili , Fu Chiang pedestrian bridge, and Shipai Elementary School.
