Scientists have proven that taking coffee and then napping for 20 minutes is much more effective than taking either one alone.
Tests have proven a "coffee nap" is much better if you want to feel refreshed and stay awake.
Researchers explain that the contents in coffee take time to reach the brain and start working. When coffee reaches the brain, the caffeine attaches onto the brain's receptors. A molecule called adenosine is also trying to do the same thing.

When a person continues on throughout the day, adenosine is produced in the brain. When it accumulates, it usually makes people feel more tired.
The problem with taking coffee when one is tired is that there will be some receptors that already have adenosine in them.
This is where the nap comes in.
Sleep in general is supposed to clear away adenosine from certain receptors. If people are trying to stay awake, however, a nap instead of sleep is encouraged.
The nap should last for only 20 minutes. Amassing enough sleep inertia beyond the allotted time will lead the person to a much deeper sleep that will be much harder to waken from.
Different studies have proved the efficacy of coffee naps.
Researchers at Loughborough University in the UK have seen that a coffee nap lasting for 15 minutes is enough to lessen mistakes during a driving simulation. Improvements were seen despite some participants lying in bed and not falling into a nap.
Japanese researchers, on the other hand, studied similar naps and saw an improvement in memory tests. This result contrasted with those from participants who napped and woke up by being blasted with a bright light to their eyes.
In order to take a coffee nap, one should start with a cup of hot joe. The coffee should be drunk quickly, leaving enough time to take a quick 15 to 20 minute nap.
Ensure the nap doesn't last longer than 20 minutes. Sleeping beyond that will negate the effects by taking one into a much deeper sleep.
