On one hand, "Ghost in the Shell" enthusiasts were concerned with Johansson portraying the role of Major Motoko Kusanagi, as avid fans are expecting that the lead role will be played by an Asian actor, which they think might be the perfect fit for this iconic badass character. However, after seeing the official image of Johansson wearing the infamous haircut of Kusanagi, fans somehow agreed that the Hollywood star is capable of taking the lead role.

Meanwhile, as Major Motoko Kusanagi, Johansson will lead the counter-cyberterrorist unit, known as Public Security Section 9, who fights against cybercrimes committed during the cutting edge 21st century Japan. Johansson's character is a cyber-enhanced human hybrid that is a totally one hell of a leader, as described by Gizmodo.

"Ghost in the Shell" Live- action film, which will be helmed by "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders, is slated to be released on March 31, 2017.

For reference, "Ghost in the Shell," which was originally written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow, follows the story of a special-operations task-force's fight against cybercrimes. The manga series also shows how an ultramodern Japan may look like, as humans have transformed into cyborgs, which uses robotic body parts that are linked to international systems. These international systems will be used by troublemakers to commit different types of cybercrimes.
