Team USA Dominates Finland in 114-55 Win; First Game of the FIBA World Cup

Team USA breezed through Finland in dominating fashion with a 114-55 win during their first official international competition game of the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.

USA's plans going into the game were to play with tenacious defense while pushing the ball as fast as possible in transition, and they certainly executed those plans to perfection.

It was a textbook start from USA to begin the first half, as they outscored Finland 60-18. USA's defense was so good that they held Finland to zero field goals in the second quarter, only allowing them to shoot a pair of free throws.

Coach K went with the starting lineup of Kyrie Irving, Stephen Curry, James Harden, Kenneth Faried and Anthony Davis, but quickly went through a multitude of combinations and rotations showing off just how much depth USA possesses.

The crowd was very energetic and surprisingly seemed to cheer more for Finland (fans love an underdog story), but USA didn't exactly give the crowd much to cheer for in that aspect with their dominating performance.

Finland rallied in the third quarter scoring a much-improved 21 points, but USA's athleticism in transition was still too much for Finland to handle.

Finland's main flaw shown in recent exhibition games before the tournament was having major defensive problems, so it's no surprise they had major troubles trying to contain Team USA.

The only true test for USA was being able to keep their composure and handling the pressure of the crowd, considering they haven't had much experience playing together other than training camp and recent exhibition games.

Overall great team effort for USA. Klay Thompson was the leading scorer with 18 points coming off the bench, followed close behind by Anthony Davis with 17. Rose shown a little bit of everything tonight: passing, shooting, explosiveness. Great signs for a player on a comeback trail.

Team USA is set to play their second game of the FIBA World Cup tomorrow (Sunday) against Turkey at 3:30 p.m./et.
