Hours after news broke that music legend Prince had passed away, Mariah Carey paid tribute to the singer and her close friend with a teary-eyed performance during her concert at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris.
The Purple Rain singer was found dead at his Paisley Park home and studio in Minneapolis on Thursday, as previously reported and Carey took a minute between performances during her show to say a few words about the late musician.

"So it's a very sad day but we remember the life of somebody who will always be treasured," an emotional Carey told the audience. "He was a friend to me too and he talked me through some times I really, really needed somebody and he was an incredible person if you didn't ever get to meet him and I'm sure his music touched every single person in here. So, let's have a moment of silence for Prince if we could please."
The Without You singer then dedicated her 1995 collaboration with R&B group Boyz II Men One Sweet Day to Prince as she tried to hold back her tears during the gig, which is part of her The Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour.
Prince's death shocked the music industry and social media exploded with an outpouring of condolences from fans and friends alike, including Carey who took to Twitter to mourn the loss of the superstar.
"Genius, legend, inspiration, friend. The world will miss you. I'll never get over it," she captioned a picture of herself with Prince.
