(Photo : Cancan Chu/Getty Images) Hangzhou's scenic West Lake is a popular tourist and local attraction.
In a bizarre turn of events, a Chinese scavenger doing his ‘rounds’ at the scenic West Lake in Hangzhou in Zhejiang province reportedly got mad at a high-tech waste bin and kicked it into the lake, news reports say.
The scavenger, a 43-year-old man who originally came from Shandong province, earned some cash by scavenging for rubbish left by tourists along West Lake, reports Thepaper.cn. His opportunity to earn easy money was challenged when the local government started installing expensive high-tech waste bins that crushes the waste dropped inside it.

The man reportedly attempted to pick out some drink cans from the 30,000 yuan (about USD $4,615) waste bin, hoping to resell them. However, as the bin was pressing on the rubbish using its built-in compressor, the man found it impossible to retrieve his would-be cash.
Frustrated, the man then kicked the poor solar-powered waste bin that was only doing its job. He reportedly pushed it into the lake, where it met its demise.
Police were able to detain the man after the incident. He was also charged for damaging the expensive public property, and might face a fine and jail sentence.
The waste bin, on the other hand, was hard to retrieve, lake management officials said. They add that because it sunk, the water had damaged its mechanical compressor.
Scenic Lake Swimming
While that might sound funny, another piece of expensive technology swam in West Lake last year, reports the Shanghaiist. It happened very early morning on September 16, 2015.
The driver, surnamed Tang, called police to report that his BMW had been swimming in the Lake. He admitted that this happened because he got distracted with his smartphone while driving. He reported to police that he was playing with his smartphone around the steering wheel, but accidentally dropped it. But instead of stopping to find the device, he just tried to find it while driving – and accidentally stepped on the gas pedal.
Although the car was damaged, firefighters and police were successful in taking the car out of the water after a few hours. Tang didn’t only get his car and phone back: he also got a fish that got stuck in the car bumper.
