E-cig not-so-safe releases chromium and nickel

Researchers from the University of Southern California found out that e-cigarettes release second-hand smoke containing toxic metals such as chromium and nickel.

Electronic Cigarettes or e-cigarettes were said to be healthier than traditional cigarettes because of the close to zero exposure to organic carcinogens that can cause cancer.

They explained that lack of these carcinogens makes e-cigarette less harmful than the normal cigarette but the high level of chromium and nickel in the cigarette could be very alarming.

Chromium is a steely gray, hard and brittle metal which take time to polish and can resist tarnishes. Nickel is a silver white transition metal that has a golden tinge which is hard and ductile.

To come up with this study, researchers collected indoor particles from e-cigarettes to study their chemical contents.

E-cigarettes are commonly used indoors like offices and rooms, that's the reason why they conducted their experiment in real life exposure conditions.

Arian Saffari, one of the researchers, explained that the metal particles came from the cartridge of three-cigarette devices.

He believes, this study is necessary to improve the regulatory measures of using e-cigarettes in public.

E-cigarettes are battery powered vaporizer that is similar to smoking tobacco which produces aerosol that resembles smoke.

It uses e-liquid, a vaporized liquid solution that is used for heating the element known as atomizer which contains propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, nicotine and flavorings.

Previous researchers said that e-cigarettes are safer than smoking tobacco products and other nicotine replacement products.

However, they worry that this may cause more addiction to smokers, though there has been no evidence of addiction to non-smokers who tried smoking e-cigarettes.
