A tornado that suddenly hit a Chinese city in Guangdong on Sunday caused widespread damage to property, and sent civilians to hospitals, news reports say.
The tornado that unexpectedly hit the city of Shantou in south China's Guangdong province has caused widespread damages to the homes of more than 1,800 residents living in Jinzao, reports the South China Morning Post. Amongst all the properties affected, local officials say that about 300 houses lost their roofs after being blown away by the fierce tornado.

In Hecuo village, a 2,000-square-meter building lost its aluminum roof to the tornado as well, the Shantou City Government said in a statement. Because of this, two were injured and brought to the hospital. Five people from Shigu and Yangmei villages were also reportedly injured.
About 540 buildings were damaged in three different villages, Xinhua reported. All of the people who were injured in the devastation were also taken to a hospital for treatment, but their conditions are still unknown.
Local authorities sent a task force Sunday, bringing with them relief goods as aid to those who were affected. It is expected that the city will still have medium to heavy rain over the next three days.
Rains Foreseen
The National Meteorological Center was able to forecast heavy rainfall over parts of Guangdong earlier this month. However, it was unable to foresee the arrival of the tornado that caused havoc in the vicinity.
Dangerous Weather
Earlier this month, another province in south China experienced torrential outpours that killed four people and severely injured both life and property.
Hunan province was hit by extreme weather conditions characterized by strong rains and hail storms. Hailstones that were the size of eggs fell down from the sky and affected the lives of more than 380,000 residents.
Four people reportedly died, while about 5,000 were forced to evacuate and transfer to a safer place. More than 900 houses were destroyed by the hail storm. Vehicles were also damaged by the outpouring.
