The New York Knicks are reportedly eyeing Sacramento Kings point guard Darren Collison this summer as the team's search for their ideal floor general still continues.

While the Knicks are expected to be busy in the upcoming free agency period because of their at least $18 million of ready cap space to use, reports were out that team officials are also intending to play in the trade market this offseason.

The said cap space could actually grow to as much as $30 million if standouts Arron Afflalo and Derrick Williams decide to opt out of their current contracts and so Phil Jackson and company are set to make some big decisions for the franchise in the summer.

ESPN's Ian Begley reported that the Knicks "will be looking to upgrade the backcourt this summer" and some of their top targets include Memphis' Mike Conley, Sacramento's Rajon Rondo, Orlando's Brandon Jennings, Charlotte's Nic Batum, and Toronto's DeMar DeRozan.

Another point guard who is reportedly set to be in the sights of Jackson is Kings playmaker Collison, who can be acquired via a trade as New York's cap space is more than enough to accommodate his over $5 million annual salary with Sacramento.

Although it would be hard to know who are the players the Kings would want from New York, Begley noted that the Knicks will still have enough cap space "to spend on another starting-caliber free agent" if ever they were able to snag the 28-year-old point guard from Sacramento.

Collison, who is the primary backup of Rondo in the Kings' lineup, is of high value for his current team as Rondo is not expected to stay with them next season. With that, Collison will become the bailout option at starting point guard, which he is actually capable of becoming.

The former UCLA standout 14.0 points, 4.3 assists, and 1.0 steals per game in the recently concluded regular season.

Fansided noted that "Collison has always thrived as a starter" and should be a major upgrade over current Knicks starter Jose Calderon if a deal pushes through.
