It appears Rajon Rondo has requested to be traded and will not re-sign with the Boston Celtics, according to longtime Celtics beat writer and ESPN's Jackie MacMullan.
The information leaked was captured in a behind-the-scenes video clip during ESPN's "Around the Horn" TV show in a conversation between NY Daily News' Frank Isola and MacMullan. They were discussing what big trades could potentially be coming up in the NBA, where MacMullan then mentioned Rondo wanting out of Boston.

"It will happen because he's told them [Boston] he wants out," MacMullan said on Rondo being traded. "And no one believes me, but that's the truth."
The news has left many Boston Celtics fans in disbelief and very confused, considering reports over the past few months have been stating otherwise.
Boston's General Manager Danny Ainge has been continuously speaking to the media about his plans to keep Rondo in the mix. Ainge ensured that the addition of point-guard Marcus Smart in the 2014 draft wouldn't affect Rondo's status on the team, stating they can both easily co-exist.
Just a couple months ago in June, Rondo said he wants to stay in Boston and how he "trusts" Danny Ainge's decisions. He's shown excitement taking the role as the leader of the team following the departures of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. After all, Ainge didn't make him the captain of the Celtics for no reason.
It's worth noting though, that Rondo said those things around the time when "Kevin Love to Boston" rumors were at its peak, and Rondo was looking forward to bringing in another star. However, Danny Ainge has yet to bring in any other star this offseason, which could play a huge part in Rondo's decision to leave the team.
Rondo has one season left on his contract with the Celtics before he becomes a free agent next summer. Even if MacMullan is indeed correct about Rondo not wanting to re-sign with Boston, don't expect Danny Ainge to rush and make a trade happen right away.
Rondo's trade value is currently low because of his recent ACL injury that occurred last season, but now that he's 100% healthy, Ainge will most likely want Rondo to play as much as possible to increase his trade value before the NBA trade deadline in February.
No official information about Rondo requesting a trade have been released from Celtics front office or from Rondo himself yet, but when ESPN's Hall of Famer sportswriter Jackie MacMullan talks, you listen.
