Social networking giant Facebook is working on a standalone camera application to encourage its 1.6 billion users to share more videos and photos.
According to the Wall Street Journal, sources say that work to add the new app is in its nascent stage.
People familiar with the matter claim that the camera app is aimed at motivating users to create photos and videos. The camera app is intended to spur the creation of content, which will be shared on Facebook.

Facebook has announced a number of chatbot partnerships with developers who got early access, like 1-800-Flowers, so users can order flowers by just sending its Messenger bot a friend's name . At the same time, Facebook also closed its in-house app Creative Labs, and remove thre of the unit's apps from the Google's Play store and Apple's App Store.
According to Global Web Index, in the first quarter of current year, 33 percent of Facebook users said they updated their profile status in the past month and 37 percent said they uploaded or shared their own photos. A year ago, nearly 44 percent users who participated in the survey said they updated their profile status in the prior month, and 46 percent said they uploaded or shared their photos.
Facebook recently introduced an option to post pre-made collages from a user's recently taken photographs. The company also started video-sharing application MSQRD, which help users augment videos via filters and offers support to swap faces with others in the snap-shot.
