China's Ding 'The Dragon' Junhui got the better of the tournament's fifth seed Englishman Judd Trump 13-10 to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2016 Betfred World Snooker Championship on Monday. Meanwhile, the five-time title holder Ronnie O'Sullivan bowed out to Barry Hawkins with a 13-12 defeat.

Trump, 26, who was a 2011 world championship finalist, tried to make a rally in the 19th frame by winning three straight frames after being down 12-7 to cut the deficit to two games 12-10. However, the Chinese snooker star prevented the Bristol native from stealing the victory after claiming the 23rd frame to move to the last eight at the Crucible for the second straight year.

The Yixing, Jiangsu native, who currently holds the 17th spot in the world rankings, sailed through the three qualifying rounds before he reached the last 16 of the tournament. China's top cueman will be facing Mark Williams on Tuesday and Wednesday for their best-of-25 frames matchup, according to Xinhua.

"It got harder at the end and Judd played some very good shots," Ding said. "It didn't matter how well I played, I just had to win the frames".

In the other match of the tourney, the world No. 11 Barry Hawkins put an end to a late rally from the current world No. 6 Ronnie O'Sullivan after sending the match to a deciding 35th frame by drawing the game to 12-all.

The 37-year-old Hawkins successfully managed to outlast the cueman from Wordsley and ended a 14-year run of being defeated by his compatriot O'Sullivan.

With the win, Hawkins booked a quarterfinal showdown with Marco Fu of Hong Kong, China. Fu beat Anthony McGill of Scotland with a 13-9 win.
