The series titled 'Name of the People' is being financed by the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) - China's top law enforcement agency. Setting a new precedence, this drama will portray a senior government official as the main villain for the first time.

In the past, China's anti-corruption dramas shied away from negative portrayal of senior government and party officials.

Television heartthrob Lu Yi is the main protagonist of this anti-corruption drama. Lu Yi will be playing the role of government investigator, who will be shown travelling to fictitious Chinese province called 'Bianxi' to investigate a murder.

According to various reports, crew members of the drama series will be given rare access to a high-security prison in eastern China. Officials believe that this would help in creating a realistic portrayal of China's corrupt prisoners.

Officials in the SPP have been reluctant to offer any information on this forthcoming drama. However, director Fan Ziwen confirmed to a local newspaper that the SPP has approved the series because they believe that it would highlight President Xi's call to eradicate corruption from Chinese society.

President Xi has been vigorously clamping down on corrupt officials since taking office. Thousands of corrupt officials have been nabbed and imprisoned under his tenure.
