'Descendants of the Sun' Actor Song Joong Ki's Cutout Promotes Women Shoes in China

The huge success of Korean drama "Descendants of the Sun" has catapulted Song Joong Ki into mega-stardom, and he is currently busy signing multiple endorsement deals. However, some advertisers, it looks like, are taking the unauthorized, illegal route to make the Korean actor promote their products. In one such case, Joong Ki's cutout was recently seen modeling for women shoes in China.

In the photoshopped cutout that surfaced online, the top half is that of Joon Ki's character from "Descendants of the Sun," where he played the role of army captain Yoo Si-jin, while the bottom half of the photo is that of a woman, holding a bag, wearing women pants and high heeled shoes, according to Korea Boo.

This move of the Chinese seller to use Joon Ki's image to advertise his product does not come as a surprise, as "Descendants of the Sun" has made Joon Ki a hot property for advertisers not only in his home country, but also in China.

It was recently reported that Joong Ki has been paired opposite Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi to endorse cosmetic brand Proya. This two-year deal is worth USD 3 million, according to reports. This deal has topped the endorsement deals signed by Kim Soo Hyun and Lee Min Ho -- both the South Korean actors enjoy huge popularity in China.

"Descendants of the Sun," a 16-episode pre-produced drama, aired simultaneously both in China and South Korea.  In China, it streamed on iQiyi and broke streaming records. There are now reports that the Chinese version of the drama is in the works, though it is not yet clear whether Korean actors will be reprising their roles in this version.
