An official at the Beijing Security Housing Investment Center told the newspaper that the passive homes will have 25-cm thick insulating layers, compared to a normal apartment's 8-centimeter later. Its thick covering will keep the heat inside during cold weather.
A special heat storage device will retain the heat and use it to raise the temperature of cool air drawn into the system.
It will also have cooling features that can blow cool air into room. This cooling system conusumes less power than airconditioning units in individual homes.
A standard building's energy-saving rate in Beijing is 75 percent.
