During a barbecue party on Friday for Democratic donors in New York, United States President Barack Obama said the recent conflict that the world is facing can seem "frightening" to many Americans.

Amid geopolitical tensions between Israel and Palestine and the Islamic State's advance in Iraq and Syria, the president said "the world has always been messy."

During a fundraiser in Purchase, New York, Obama said he understood why the majority of Americans are troubled by the growing tensions and problems around the world.

"If you watch the nightly news, it feels like the world is falling apart," the president said.

Obama agreed that these are trying times for everyone, but urged Americans to remain hopeful and confident that the U.S. will be able to get through difficult periods.

Much of the fear Americans face has been attributed by the president to the growing use of social media, which makes all the recent international turmoil seem close to home.

President Obama stated that troubles have always been inevitable, but now it is more publicized due to social media. He added that today's conflicts were not as threatening as those experienced during the Cold War.

"In reality, the world has always been messy, but we're only noticing now because social media are providing details of the turmoil that nations are going through," Obama said.

The president's remarks come only a day after he stated during a press conference that the Obama administration doesn't yet have a strategy regarding the threat of ISIS' advancement in Iraq and Syria.

rticles in leading newspapers have pointed to Obama's need to focus on what the United States has to accomplish as opposed to emphasizing the country's limitations, but the president has stated that despite various international threats, the U.S. is safe from the turmoil.
