Vuk Jeremic is a Serbian politician, president of the United Nations General Assembly for the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly. He was also a Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Government of Serbia from 2007 to 2012.
When being interviewed on August 9th in a joint meeting with Chinese media in Beijing, Vuk Jeremic says one of the most important references of the world economy is China's economic. China's position has determined what happened to China will also happen to the world inevitably. If Chinese economy is good, then the world will be in a good direction economically. But if China is suffering difficulties, the world economy will also face problems.
"Maybe some people want to question whether China's 7.6% growth in the first half of the year is good enough or strong enough. I don't think there are many countries in the world that can have a 7.6% growth. This is a very stable index. The 7.6% growth should be attributed to China's domestic demand." Vuk Jeremic said.
As for the global economic and political situation, Vuk Jeremic thinks the United Natinals will continue playing a leading role in response to the challenges of the 21st century. All the countries will join forces in the General Assembly. Despite many important organizations like G20 are emerging, without the UN and UN General Assembly, global challenges can't be solved in a satisfactory way.
Vuk Jeremic said, in the coming 24 months, the major work for UN General Assembly is to complete negotiations and reach agreements so the world will develop in a more sustainable way.
He stressed: "China plays a critical role in this process and UN looks forward to working with China. We believe China will continue to play a constructive role in the UN."
