"Valve reached out to us because they were looking for a fast, international payment method for Steam users in emerging gaming markets in countries like India, China and Brazil," Rory Desmond, director of Bitpay's business development for North America and APAC, wrote in a blog post. "While more users are coming online in these countries, traditional payment options like credit cards often aren't available."
According to Fortune, many investors lost interest in the crypto currency after its price suffered a deep dive from $1,000 in 2013 to just $200 in 2015.
However, as time progresses, the number of users continues to surge as the system offers a faster, stable, and more secure transactions. In fact, Blockchain.info reported that daily bitcoin transactions have exceeded 200,000 for the first time since 2015 and almost reached the 250,000 target this month.
Steam, which is owned by Valve software, claims to have 100 million users across the globe in more than 200 countries. It offers a variety of over 9,000 games including Fallout 4, XCOM 2, Global Offensive, Left 4 Dead, Half-Life, to name a few.
Based on its website bitcoinist.net, users just need to update their Steam accounts to make use of the new function.
