A Chinese father decides to jump off a school building after going on a killing rampage as classes began on Monday in Hubei province, leaving three students dead and six others wounded.

According to reports, a 40-year-old father surnamed Chen jumped to his death after he stabbed eight children and a teacher in Dongfang Primary School at around 10:20 on Monday morning.

Police reports said that the knife-wielding man stormed inside a classroom and began stabbing the victims.

Three of them had died while six others were immediately hospitalized. Two of them, one student and a teacher, are in critical condition, the Xinhua news agency reported.

Monday's class was the first for this school year after the summer vacation in China.

Initial investigations revealed that Chen was upset after his daughter was not allowed by school officials to register for the new semester due to an incomplete summer vocation homework.

In some reports, China's very competitive education system, where corporal punishment is seen as a necessity, have been blamed for such violent acts.

High pressure is known to be put on Chinese students as the country still runs under a one-child policy placing the burden of the entire family's aspiration for success into a child's shoulder.

Investigations are still being held as to how the suspect was able to enter the school in spite of security precautions made following several attacks in recent years.

Several reports of attacks in children have been recorded including a recent case that took place in July this year.

During the encounter, a cook reportedly killed a boy and wounded two other children using a knife in July. It happened in a rented apartment in Guangdong Province.

Meanwhile, eight children were killed during another killing spree involving a man in March 2010 outside a school in the province of Fujian.
