Peng Shuai and Hsieh Su-wei have failed to reach their supposedly third consecutive quarterfinals appearance at the U.S. Open women's doubles competition in Flushing Meadows New York on Sunday.

The two-time Grand Slam champions Peng and Hsieh was eliminated by the duo of Kimiko Date-Krumm of Japan and Czech Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova, 7(7)-6(4), 6-4.

This is the first time Date-Krumm and Zahlavova-Strycova to have reached the quarters of any Grand Slam tournament since partnering in the recent French Open.

Even though Peng and Hsieh did not make it to the quarter-finals, two other Chinese nationals have advanced, Jie Zheng and Yifan Xu.

Zheng is partnered with half of the defending champions Andrea Hlavackova and are set to face the team of Date-Krumm and Zahlavova-Strycova while Xu is teamed up with Zarina Diyas and will go up against the third seeded Cara Black and Sania Mirza.

The eighth seeded Zheng and Hlavackova have joined forces at the recent Wimbledon Championships where they were able to reach the semifinals but lost to eventual winners Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci.

Xu and Diyas on the other hand have just teamed up and have reason to stay together a bit longer since both entered their first quarter-finals Grand Slam tournament either as a team or individually.

Flavia Pennetta, who just came from a singles match victory over Casey Dellecqua, is also through to the quarters of the doubles competition along with five-time Grand Slam champion Martina Hingis.

The two defeated the Australian pair of Jarmila Gajdosova and Ajla Tomljanovic in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. They will face fifth-seeded Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik.

Chinese tennis fans still have a reason to cheer for Peng is still up and running in the quarters of the singles competition where she is set to battle it out against 17-year-old Belinda Bencic on Wednesday.
