The name of the police officer is expected to be released at a later date.

Police reports stated that the incident happened at around 9:56 a.m. on Sept.1 when officers of the North Precinct responded to a distress call from an off-ramp from I-84 on 122nd Avenue, where a man was reportedly pointing a handgun at passing vehicles.

Callers added that the man looked to be trying to hijack the cars passing on the ramp.

When the officers responded, the suspect pointed a gun at them before running through traffic on the highway, causing the freeway traffic to be shut down.

According to police reports, an officer in pursuit fired shots which hit the suspect.

The officers then tried talking to the man, but he still refused to cooperate and dared the officers to shoot him.

Members of the Special Emergency Reaction Team arrived on the scene and were able to approach the suspect using an armored vehicle.

The SERT brought the suspect to the hospital to receive medical treatment for the sustained injury.

The gun was found next to the suspect and police have yet to reveal whether it was real or not.

The freeway was closed until around 2 p.m. after the initial investigation was conducted.

As is standard protocol in an officer-involved shooting investigation, the police officer who shot the suspect will be placed on a paid leave, until the case is closed.
