Google has filed another patent for creating smart lens that can help measure glucose levels.
U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has approved the patent application last week. The search engine giant described in the application that it could remove the lens of the eye, inject fluid into the empty lens capsule and then place an electronic lens in the fluid.

The smart lens’ primary function seems to be helping a user see better by focusing more light onto the retina, which in-turn improves the focal capabilities of the eye.
The patent details elements that include the lens having its own battery that can be charged using wirelessly transmitted energy. It also stated that it will be powered by an energy-harvesting antenna. The lens could have antennae for wirelessly communicating with an external controller, such as a smartphone. The smart lens features its own storage unit for temporarily storing data that could later be synced to a mobile device.
Google mentions a bunch of fun signals that could be sent from the device like GPS, LTE, and NFC which are probably totally fine to have inside a human body. But it is worth noting that privacy could become a concern. If the eyes are computerized, it can send data frequently and the signal could allow law enforcement or hackers to identify or track the user’s movements. The company guarantee, however, that it could make the mechanical lenses strip out personally identifying information to make it secure.
The company says that its patented lenses could be used to cure presbyopia, an age-related condition in which people's eyes stiffen and their ability to focus is diminished or lost. In addition, it could correct common eye problems like myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.
