According to the news released by Chinese Embassy in Afghanistan yesterday, a man who was taken hostage by captors managed to untie himself and jumped out of the captors' car. Then, he found refuge at a U.S. military base and was helped by U.S. troops. The man was sent by a U.S. military aircraft to meet the staff of Chinese Embassy.
Afghan police said yesterday that Afghan authorities found four bodies in an apartment on August 9th, including three Chinese. After investigation, the police found those people were having a party when the accident happened. But what happened during the party and who killed these people are still unclear.
A spokesman said Chinese embassy urged Afghan authorities to launch a thorough investigation and ensure the security of Chinese citizens and institutions.
According to Foreign Affairs Office of Zhejiang Province, one of the three-killed men was Li Bin. He came from Jinyun County of Zhejiang Province. In 1992, Li Bin started his business in Jinhua City of Zhejiang Province. Later, he went to Afghanistan to run his lapis lazuli business. Lapis lazuli is a relatively rare semi-precious stone that has been prized since antiquity for its intense blue color. Lapis lazuli was being mined in the Badakhshan province of Afghanistan as early as the 3rd millennium BC. Yesterday afternoon, Li Bin's brother Li Xiao was leaving for Afghanistan from China. He is going to Afghanistan to deal with the aftermath of his brother.
