The world's former top female badminton player Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand has said that she is "100 percent confident" of successfully winning an Olympic medal in Rio this August.

After ruling the top spot for two weeks, the 21-year-old Thai badminton ace dropped one place in the latest BWF world rankings that were released on Thursday (May 5th) and settled to be the current world No. 2 behind Carolina Marin of Spain. The Yasothon, Thailand native came up with superb tournament performances to scoop three World Superseries events in succession including the Malaysia Open and the Singapore Open in a span of three weeks.

Her winning streak came to an end after she suffered a second round defeat in the recently concluded Asia Badminton Championship that was held in Wuhan China. Ratchanok was beaten by the 2016 Syed Modi International Championships runner-up Sayaka Sato of Japan 21-17 16-21 17-21.

Ratchanok is the first-ever Thai badminton player to be ranked world No. one. At the age of 14, she was the youngest champion of the BWF World Junior Championships, the title she won for three consecutive years.

Along with Spaniard Carolina Marin, Nozomi Okuhara of Japan, Li Xuerui and Wang Yihan of China, Ratchanok is one of the sport's top and elite players considered to be a gold medal contender in the much awaited 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil.

She managed to reach the quarterfinal round of the women's singles event in the last 2012 London Olympics, but lost to China's Wang Yihan 21-17, 18-21, 14-21. Ratchanok vowed to bring home Thailand's first ever badminton Olympic medal.

"I would like to win an Olympic medal, it doesn't matter what medal it is," she said.
