With its current figure, Civil War is on track to outpace Captain America: The Winter Soldier with 115.6 million and Iron Man 3 with $121.2 million.
The movie still has another week to go before it will be possible to determine whether it will surpass Avengers: Age of Ultron in China with $240.1 million, and also before The Divergent Series: Allegiant, The Angry Birds Movie and Southpaw open on May 20.
The latest figures from Deadline shows that Civil War has already accumulated nearly $679 million globally.
The star-studded movie that revolves around the heroic Avengers having to choose a side between Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) has received an outstanding 8.2 rating from Chinese movie site Douban based on 56,000 viewers.
Other than the two, the Russo brothers-directed Civil War also features popular stars including Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, to name a few. Other two new faces, namely Tom Holland, who played the young Spiderman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, were introduced.
The Russo brothers also divided the group to pay a visit to their fans across the globe. Spearheaded by Joe Russo, Team Cap including Evans, Sebastian Stan ("Bucky" Barnes/Winter Soldier), and Boseman thrilled their Chinese fans in the mainland during the Beijing annual film festival last month.
The three impressed local fans as they painted the color of their respective superhero characters on traditional Peking opera masks. Meanwhile, Team Iron Man together with Anthony Russo went to Paris.
