The Fortuna vs. Sosa title match was officially announced by the co-promotional partnership of Max Power Promotions and Sampson Boxing at a press conference in Beijing on Monday. Fortuna will be putting his super featherweight title on the line. He won the belt in May 2015 by beating the Costa Rican Bryan 'El Tiquito' Vasquez with a 12-round unanimous decision at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Fortuna successfully defended the title in September 2015 with a 10th round stoppage of the Puerto Rican Carlos Ivan Velasquez in Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Fortuna, 26, hails from La Romana, Dominican Republic. He has a professional boxing record of 29 wins, still undefeated with one draw. The undefeated Dominican pugilist has 21 victories by way of knockouts. While the 28-year-old Sosa has a record of 18 wins, 1 loss, 4 no-contest and 14 victories by stoppage.
Fortuna has been exceptionally good in boxing since his amateur days. He participated in the Pan American Junior Championships in its launching in 2003 and was regarded as one of boxing's most exciting fighters.
Fortuna, who is being promoted by Sampson Boxing, won the Interim WBA Featherweight Championship by beating formerly undefeated Patrick Hyland in December 2012.
The powerful southpaw is also known for scoring highlight reel knockouts over formidable opponents including the April 2012 first round technical knockout against Yuandale Evans of the United States and the Mexican fighter Miguel Zamudio in April 2013.
