Miami Heat star Dwayne Wade's best play of his team's victory over the Toronto Raptors in game four of the NBA Eastern Conference semifinals actually came before the opening tip-off. The all-star avoided further accusations of disrespect by halting his pregame routine in time to honor the Canadian national anthem.

Wade drew the ire of Canadian fan before game three, when cameras caught the guard practicing his shot as the rest of the arena stood to honor the singing of 'O Canada.'

Canadian fans saw their team stand for the American anthem and were furious when Wade did not return the favor.

One offended fan said, "I mean the whole Raptor's lineup, they stood and they were respectful for the American anthem. Why shouldn't Dwane Wade do the same for the Canadian [anthem]?"

Another fan tweeted, "Dwayne Wade won't stop shooting warm ups (sic) during Canadian anthem today. Reverse that situation and US would be declaring war on Canada."

The mayor of Toronto, Norm Kelly, even got in on the action, tweeting jokes about Donald Trump and suggesting that the Raptor's play 'O Canada' on a loop during the next game.

Dwayne Wade responded after the game, taking offense to the notion that he is a disrespectful person.

"If anybody thinks I'm being disrespectful to a country," Wade said, "then they don't know who Dwayne Wade is."

Wade's defensive words brought him even more heat. Commentators rushed to point out the irony of Wade speaking in the third person to proclaim himself a respectful person.

Apparently unfazed by the criticism or the change to his routine, Wade dropped 30 points on the Raptors.

While his motives are questioned, maybe Wade's actions will dispel the drama and shift focus back to basketball, where the Heat and Raptors are now tied up with two wins apiece.
