Young Girl asks Parents to sign Handwritten ‘Contract’

Fearing that she might receive a different treatment when a new sibling arrives, a young girl in southwest China has made a “two-child contract” for her parents to sign, a news report says.

The nine-year-old girl, a fourth-grader from Yubei district in Chongqing, became unhappy at the thought of her parents sharing the love they have for her with a new child, reports the Chongqing Economic Times.

Her 32-year-old mother and 35-year-old father planned to have another baby after China’s government introduced the two-child policy. However, despite efforts to persuade their daughter that the treatment they give her will never change, the young girl still appeared to be unhappy.

Later on, as her parents emphasized the benefits of having a brother or sister, the young girl softened. She, however, still prepared a handwritten “two-child contract,” for all of them, including her unborn sibling, to sign.

Considering that the contract was made by a nine-year-old, the parents were impressed by it: The contract states that both parents must not be partial to the new child while maintaining the budget for food and clothes. It is also said to be valid from 2016 to 2101.

Contrary to what could be said at the idea of a contract, the young girl said she is not against having a new brother or sister. In fact, she said she plans to write an education plan with the idea in mind.

"I will be tolerant to my brother or sister,” she said, “but I will not help tell a lie."

The young girl’s parents said they intend to keep their promises of impartial and uncompromising care to her and her new sibling, and plan to sign the handwritten contract.
